SimplySteno is celebrating over 20 years of service to court reporting students! When we launched in 2004, we had high hopes of becoming the BEST source for speedbuilding. It’s important to understand that NO states currently require a DEGREE to become a court reporter, captioner, CART provider, or do transcription work.
Many states don’t even require certification, leaving the determination of your skills up to the hiring agency.
That said, you should ALWAYS strive to write at speeds of 225 words per minute or higher before trying to attain any of those positions. We train our students to pass the RPR exam (given through NCRA), as that will open the most employment doors.
